I have had my 2015 Aurora Elite for about 20 months now. It rides beautifully and is a really classy machine. The disc brakes are good reliable stoppers, the riding position is comfortable and the bike is quick despite being heavier than the carbon fibre road racers and is great for a sprint without the panniers . The Reynolds 631 frame is superb - and provides a comfortable, shock-dampening ride with just enough spring without being "whippy" It is a great bike loaded or unloaded. I put Ortliebs panniers on the front and back. Sometimes my toe clips glance the front fender, but it's a minor issue, and something that happens less often when you ae used to the bike. The bike gets a lot of admiring glances and comments due to its understated classy "Dakota Grey" paintwork with matching fenders. Shimano 105 derailiers on a bike at this price makes it great value and a puts it a class above many competitors in the price range. I changed the Jamis Saddle for a Brookes and put a stainless steel Tubus low-rider rack on the front (the brushed steel Tubus compliments the 2015 Elite's Dakota Grey beautifully. 3 spare pokes in the spoke holders on the rear stay is a nice touch (I haven't broke a spoke yet). Matching the paint for Dakota Grey wasn't easy. As the saying goes "Chips happen!" I got a couple of minor chips I wanted to sort out. Jamis's Website wasn't very helpful in providing a colour match. Then I discovered that it is an AUDI colour. AUDI LY1P "Dakota Grey metallic and finish with a clear gloss lacquer. Very pleased with my bike. It lives indoors, and if I could I would take it to bed with me.
...is how I would describe this bike. I have ridden it now for over 5000 miles and I would buy this bike again in a heart beat. It rides buttery smooth, climbs great, tours like a champ. It handles remarkably well when loaded. The brakes I wasn't very impressed with but they do the job. The seat is very comfortable. The components are top notch.
Overall I am fairly impressed with the Aurora Elite. I use it for long and short day rides, and some loaded weekend touring trips. It is one of the very few mid-range touring bikes available, and an impressive bang for the buck. That said, as spec'd it had several problems. It's important to know the AE is not designed for full-on touring. It is a repurposed cyclocross frame. This creates a few problems. Most importantly, there is not enough space to attach a rack to the rear eyelets. They are brazed-on too close to the seat stays. In addition, the star-nut provided does not grasp the carbon steer tube. I had to replace it with a carbon specific nut. The carbon fork provides a smooth ride, but I'm unsure how it would hold up under the stress of loaded touring. Overall, the Aurora Elite is a decent compromise between performance and stability, and comes at good value. The oversights mentioned above prevent it from being a truly exceptional bike.
